Review: Cherry Mobile Flare S3 Issues after Lollipop Update

Cherry Mobile has released several smartphones this past 2015. And one of the most popular release was the Cherry Mobile Flare S3. Since it was launched, a lot of people had found it worth the price. It now has a price tag that ranges from P3,999 to P4999.

Cherry Mobile flare S3 has a 1.3GHz Quad Core Mediatek MT6582 Processor, 1gb RAM, 5 inches screen and a 1800mah battery. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It also has a 13mp main shooter and a 5mp front camera.

Ever since the release of the latest update, which was the update for Lollipop 5.0, things began acting up on the phone. Although there were some improvements on battery performance, there were a few key phone functions that were greatly affected.

• Screen - The screen issues still persist. Whenever you use the keyboard or try to tap on the edges, it still won't respond like what it had when it was still on Kitkat.

• Wi-fi - The phone runs great when on wifi. But, the thing is if you turn the screen of while the wifi is on, when you try to resume the screen, your connection is already lost. Not like other phones, when you turn the wifi on and you leave the screen off for a whilethe wifi connection still exist. There seems to be no solution as for the moment since going to the advaced settings on the wifi options doesn't work either.

• Overheating - Since the processor is a 1.3GHz Quad Core Mediatek MT6582 Processor, it has this thing for overheating. It turns really hot when you turn the data connection on.

• Sound -  The crisp sound that the phone had before the lollipop update was good, but it turned worst after the udgrade.

• UI (User-interface) -  The UI changed after the upgrade and it really needs to be polished a bit to make it more faster and smoother. The notification bar is a mess since you will have trouble finding the right tools to tap.

• Gallery Preview - The gallery preview appears pixelated when you enter it.

• Camera - The front camera doesn't work anymore. No fixes yet.

I personaly own one and I will try to post these issues one by one based on my experience in using the phone. I updated my flare s3 to lollipop a few days back and I want to share what I found.

Those are the few things that was noticed after the Lollipop upgrade. So it seems like the phone still needs more updates to make it work fine. Factory resetting also did not work for any of the issues above.

The only way to revert or fix the issues as for the moment is to flash back to the old kitkat version. Back to where it all started, to the factory OS. Unfortunately to those who want to stick with the update, we just need to wait until Cherry Mobile releases another one. As for the moment, there is still no news as to when.
